Yesterday I was out having some pooltime summer fun. I ended up with a massive sunburn, but how does a sunburn relate to cheese? Well, in my desperateness to stop the heat of the burn, I slathered a nice glop of sour cream on my back and shoulders. Instead of reaching for the aloe vera sunburn gel, I reached for the sour cream. I hate all the artificial stuff they put in those sunburn gels, so I opt for the good old fashioned sour cream and it taste good too….when it’s on toast and not on my skin. I haven’t had a sunburn this bad in years, but always remember that sunburns equal sour cream because that is what my mom used when I was a kid. After being slathered in sour cream, I proceeded to make some toast on whole grain bread. Instead of sour cream I used spreadable goat cheese and added some fresh garlic. It ended up being a delicious way to end my day.
I love cheese and if I could, I would eat it with everything, but it doesn’t go well with some foods so I don’t. I’m a mozzarella, monterey jack, pepper jack, and goat cheese kind of girl. My favorite is goat because it has a very light flavor that can be used with salads, on sandwiches, melted on pizza and of course on grilled cheese. For some reason goat cheese becomes more delicious when melted and tastes even better with tomato sauce. So, if you haven’t, go make some homemade pizza and add a little bit of goat cheese on top. I have never tried to make grilled cheese with goat, but will attempt it in the near future because it only recently occurred to me that it would be a fabulous idea and it was a stolen idea too. I was in fact eating a grilled cheese sandwich with goat cheese on it from a restaurant in Salem, MA and thought it would be a cool idea to try and make myself one of these days. We will see what happens.
OK, so, I’m not the best flower in the flower shop when it comes to writing. Yes, I can write a great paper or essay and I have gotten an A or two……or more, but writing about things that don’t have to do with a class is a little harder. I will try anyway. Of all the things I could write about, I decided to write about food, mostly. Grilled cheese to be precise and don’t be surprised if I start yammering about gardening and other things now and then.
Why grilled cheese? Well, because 1) I like it and 2) it only became one of my favorite foods this year. I don’t even think I liked grilled cheese before because I hardly ever ate it. It’s like one day I decided I wanted grilled cheese and then I became hooked on it. I also thought it would be fun to try grilled cheese in different restaurants/ diners and see how they compare because believe it or not…..I actually suck at making a good grilled cheese sandwich.
